Beyond Mindfulness: From Peace of Mind to Peace of Soul
A 3-Part Webinar Series
Tuesdays at 8PM ET on April 14, 21, 28
With Johnnette Williams, Allison Ricciardi, LMHC,
Susan Brinkmann, OCDS and Suzanne M. Baars, Ph.D
There’s a reason why the one-size-fits-all approach of the modern mindfulness movement is not a perfect fit for Christians. In this webinar series, Allison Ricciardi, LMHC, founder and director of Catholic Therapists.com; Suzanne M. Baars, Ph.D, a licensed counselor and daughter of the great pioneer in Catholic psychology, Dr. Conrad Baars; and Susan Brinkmann, OCDS, author of The Catholic Guide to Mindfulness and Mindful Like a Catholic, will help participants learn that in order to be truly mindful and fully present in the moment, we must do so with all our being. Rather than the fragmentation that can occur when we employ popular Buddhist-based mindfulness techniques that teach us to just acknowledge our emotions without judgement and move on, we must be present to those emotions and learn how to let them be guided by reason. This is the way to achieve not just lasting peace of mind, but genuine peace of soul as well.
In this webinar, participants will learn:
Why modern mindfulness is not the only way to calm the chatter of the mind
The downside of the popular practice of mindfulness
How the practice of “affirming living” is an easier and more useful way to live in the present
How to confront and better manage your emotions in order to find peace in the present
How the practice of mindfulness can distract from, rather than enhance, an encounter with God
How being mindful of the present – and the God Who is present within it – is a far more effective way to calm our anxieties
Johnnette Benkovic Williams is Founder and President of Women of Grace®, a Catholic apostolate for women featuring a number of outreaches including conferences, media, study groups and more.
