Benedicta Online Fall Course: Toward a Catholic Understanding of Woman (Online)
Benedicta Institute for Women Fall Online Course: Toward a Catholic Understanding of Woman
Instructor: Monica Migliorino Miller, PhD
Theme: Catholic Women's Leadership
(3 equivalency credits towards Certification in Catholic Women's Leadership)
Dates: October 6 - November 10 (Meeting Fridays online 7-8pm ET)
This course will be an exploration of the anthropology of the female person in light of her innate authority demonstrated through her influence, power, and effect as portrayed in Sacred Scripture, Church teaching, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the dynamic of covenant.
There is a fundamental philosophical and theological divide between a Catholic understanding of the female person and the radical feminist and secularist views. That will be unpacked throughout the course as a Catholic philosophical and theological understanding of the female person is articulated. We will explore the influence, effect, and power of woman’s authority in the Church and the world-at-large as seen through the Blessed Virgin Mary, the saints, and contemporary women. While exploring the relationship between woman’s authority and the character and skills necessary to be a Catholic leader, we will identify the practical pastoral application of such to meet the challenges of the contemporary culture and society.
Participants will read required texts, view weekly instructional videos, respond to weekly posts based on readings, and attend Zoom sessions each Friday from 7pm - 8pm ET to discuss insights gained through the readings and have questions answered.
The total cost includes a special Jubilee Year discount!
