"Understanding Forgiveness" Benedicta Enrichment Seminar at the Malvern Retreat House
Benedicta Enrichment Seminar at the Malvern Retreat House
July 23 - 24, 2026
Understanding Forgiveness
Led by, Dr. Robert Enright
Seminar 1:
“What Is Forgiveness and What Is It Not?”
As we begin exploring the moral virtue of forgiveness in five presentations, it is vital that we understand, as clearly as possible, what forgiveness is. We will spend some time on Biblical texts and modern philosophy and psychology to describe forgiveness.
Seminar 2:
“What Is an Effective Pathway for Forgiving People Who Acted Unjustly?”
We will examine a forgiveness process that has been scientifically studied and found to be effective. Some of the scientific studies will be described.
Seminar 3
“Forgiving from a Catholic Perspective”
Redemptive Suffering from Pope Saint John Paul’s Apostolic Letter, Salvifici Doloris, first will be examined. This will be followed by a guided private reflection in which audience members, if they so choose, can go through a Catholic process of forgiving one person who was unjust to them.
Seminar 4
“Going Beyond Forgiving to Seeking Forgiveness and Reconciling”
We will expand on the idea of forgiveness by exploring how forgiving, seeking forgiveness, and reconciling fit together for greater harmony in relationships, families, and communities.
Seminar 5
“Finding Meaning, Purpose, and Community in Your Forgiving”
In reflecting on your forgiveness journey, what meaning and purpose are you finding as you live the forgiving life? How can you plant forgiveness in your friendship groups, families, and parishes?
