WGR11544 - A Sacramental Approach to Recovery, Part 2
(Program 11544)
Guests: Scott Weeman
The Twelve-Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous has been a life-saving vehicle for millions of people since its founding in 1935 in Akron, Ohio, by Bill Wilson and Dr. Robert Smith. Both men had been members of the Oxford Group, a protestant organization that used the Bible and personal conversion as tools to help alcoholics gain sobriety. After leaving the group, Bill W. and Dr. Bob became deeply influenced by Catholic theology through the mentoring of Father Ed Dowling, a non-alcoholic, physically handicapped Jesuit who saw a connection between the Ignatian Exercises and the twelve-steps. Today’s guest continues the Catholic contribution to the twelve-step program as he tells us how the sacraments of our Catholic Church interface with each step to recovery. Today is Part 2 of A Sacramental Approach to Recovery.
