Not long ago I received a phone call on our radio program, Women of Grace Live. The caller was a twelve- year-old girl in 7 th grade who told me that a meaningful friendship of hers was disintegrating (her word). The crux of the problem was that her friend, also a girl, was confused about her gender. One day the friend wanted to be referred to as she and her; another day he and him; and another day, it. My young caller wanted to know what she should do. This call dramatically underscored the gender confusion rampant in our culture. What’s the cause? What can we do about it?
