St. Philip Neri spoke with insight and clarity when he said “Where there is no great mortification there is no great sanctity.” In the past several episodes of Journeys with Jesus, we’ve been exploring the ten principal virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary to see how they form a path for us to sanctity and holiness of life when we strive to make them our own. The last time we were together, we began to explore the very virtue St. Philip Neri cites in his quote – the virtue of mortification. Today, we’ll continue our exploration of what the virtue is, why it is important, and how we can grow in it. So, let’s move forward on our Journeys with Jesus.
