Though it goes by different names, its purpose is singular - prevent a pregnancy from taking place once sexual union has occurred. The Morning After Pill, also known as Plan B, and Emergency Contraception burst on the scene in 1999 with a new and improved release in 2010.
Touted as yet another advance for women’s health, the pill acts to prevent fertilization of an egg or thwart its implantation after sexual union has occurred. But, is it healthy for women? What are the risks? What are the long term effects? And why is it that women’s health always seems diametrically opposed to what is truly healthy for her?
