St Louis goes so far as to say that this concealment gives the appearance that she is "a stranger" to her own son, as He refers to her simply as "woman" at the wedding feast of Cana (Jn 2:4) and at the Crucifixion (Jn 19:26) in John's Gospel. The latter is a reference to the word "woman" in the Book of Genesis. This title bestows upon Mary the designation as the new mother of the living in the life of the Church.
