Obtains, retains and regains grace

September 11

"For I have learnt for a fact that nothing so effectively obtains, retains and regains grace, as that we should always be found not high-minded before God, but filled with holy fear."

-St. Bernard

Today's Reflection:

Falling at the feet of Our Lord is so important, as humility is so necessary in our lives. We are to be filled with this most beautiful holy fear of God, rather than an arrogance in our own prestige. Nothing we do is completed on our own. Let's remember this as we progress in this spiritual journey--all change must flow from our Father's mercy and grace!

I know well

September 10

"I know well that the greater and more beautiful the work is, the more terrible will be the storms that rage against it."

-St. Faustina

Today's Reflection:

What work is God currently calling you to? Have you experienced any storms as a result?

Lord, prepare our hearts for whatever comes our way. Strengthen us to follow You wherever that path leads!

The gift of grace

September 9

"Without the burden of afflictions it is impossible to reach the height of grace. The gift of grace increases as the struggle increases."

-St. Rose of Lima

Today's Reflection:

What afflictions/struggles are you facing currently? Suggestion: spend an hour in Adoration this week asking our Father for all the extra graces needed to truly thrive at this time.

Amen.

Happy Birthday to our Most Blessed Mother Mary!

September 8
Nativity of Mary
"Think of what the Saints have done for their neighbor because they loved God. But what Saint's love for God can match Mary's? She loved Him more in the first moment of her existence than all the Saints and angels ever loved Him or will love Him. Our Lady herself revealed to Sister Mary Crucified that the fire of her love was most extreme. If Heaven and earth were placed in it, they would be instantly consumed. And the ardors of the seraphim, compared with it, are like cool breezes. Just as there is not one among all the Blessed who loves God as Mary does, so there is no one, after God, who loves us as much as this most loving Mother does. Furthermore, if we heaped together all the love that mothers have for their children, all the love of husbands and wives, all the love of all the angels and Saints for their clients, it could never equal Mary's love for even a single soul."
-St. Alphonsus Liguori
Today's Reflection:
Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Happy Birthday to our Most Blessed Mother Mary!

Crooked picture

September 7

"Criticism of others is thus an oblique form of self-commendation. We think we make the picture hang straight on our wall by telling our neighbors that all his pictures are crooked."

-Venerable Fulton Sheen

Today's Reflection:

How easily we criticize others! It's so simple to tell other people what they have done wrong or what is wrong with them; it's so challenging to bite our tongue, and instead, say a prayer for that person!

Today, spend some time asking our Lord for an increase in the virtue of humility this weekend in order to silence yourself and kindly reflect on your own self rather than shouting out criticism at others.

Things that shackle the heart

September 6
"Don't you long to shout to those youths who are bustling around you: 'Fools! Leave those worldly things that shackle the heart - and very often degrade it - leave all that and come with us in search of Love!'"
-St. Josemaria Escriva
Today's Reflection:
What shackles your heart? What worldly things do you need to leave behind to fully search and find the Lord?

Anxious for greater

September 5

"Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for their parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of peace of the world."

-St. Teresa of Calcutta

Today's Reflection:

Covid-19 has changed many things. It seems like God was forcing us to spend more time together and slow down.

In light of this, how is your family structure operating? Are you still rushed? What do your interactions with your family and friends look like? Do you enjoy the moments together, or are you hurried, thinking of what comes next? Are there changes you could make to slow down for God and your family?

St. Teresa of Calcutta, on this your feast day, pray for us!

Love God.

September 4
"To love God is something greater than to know Him."
-St. Thomas Aquinas
Today's Reflection:
What does it mean to know God? What does it mean to love Him? How is God calling you to know Him, and ultimately to love Him, more?

Three states of conversion

September 3

"There are in truth three states of the converted: the beginning, the middle, and the perfection. In the beginning they experience the charms of sweetness; in the middle the contests of temptation; and in the end the fullness of perfection."

-St. Gregory the Great

Today's Reflection:

This quote brings to mind the words of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. One of the most beautiful things about our spiritual journey is the levels by which we continue to meet our Lord deeper and deeper.

If you were totally honest with yourself, where are you in your journey, according to the quote above? Have you started the process of being converted? Are you in stage one? Stage two? Stage three? Ask our Lord to open your heart to the truth of where you currently are, and then lean into the graces He has in store for you to bring you ever deeper in your journey with Him.

St. Gregory the Great, on this your feast day, pray for us!

The greatest service

September 2
“Know that the greatest service that man can offer to God is to help
convert souls.”
-St. Rose of Lima
Today's Reflection:
It could also be said that the greatest service a man can offer to God is to be converted. For what affect can a soul have on others if they have not experienced their own full embrace of God?
