Feast of St. Catherine of Siena, Virgin and Doctor (1347 – 1380)

“You asked for suffering…You were, in effect,Via Dolorosa asking for love and light and knowledge of the truth. For suffering and sorrow increase in proportion to love…When love grows, so does sorrow … Endure courageously, then.”

~From The Dialogue of                               St. Catherine of Siena

For Reflection:

According to St Catherine’s above statement, if we asked for love and light and knowledge of the truth, we would also get suffering…our own Via Dolorosa but Christ would be there sharing every step of the way with us, helping us to endure courageously while we surely are increasing our love for Him. What a beautiful reciprocal gift. Thank you, sweet Jesus!

DESPAIR: HOPE'S GREAT ENEMY

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says this about despair:

By despair, man ceases to hope for his personal salvation from God, for help in attaining it or for the forgiveness of his sins.  Despair is contrary to God's goodness, to His justice--for the Lord is faithful to His promises--and to His mercy. --CCC, NO. 2091
