"In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work."
-2 Timothy 2:20-21 (RSV)
Today's Reflection:
If we are to fulfill our mission, there is one spiritual blessing in particular that we must receive: the grace of healing. Every time we sin and each time a sin is committed against us, it inflicts a wound to the heart. Like so many tiny knives tearing at the delicate fiber of our being, the sharp and pointed assault of personal sin and sins committed against us render our hearts leaky vessels out of which runs the tender love of our merciful God. God pours His love, His mercy, His grace into our hearts--they, in turn, leak it out through the sievelike openings of injury and affliction.
But our God is the Divine Physician, and with ultimate gentleness He desires to suture the wounds of our hearts with the finest threads of grace.
Today, spend some time with our Lord, asking Him to reveal to you the wounds of your heart. Then, with trusting confidence, ask Him for the grace of healing.
