"Prayer is not one occupation among many, but is at the center of our life in Christ. It turns our attention away from ourselves and directs it to the Lord. Prayer fills the mind with truth and gives hope to the heart. Without a deep experience of prayer, growth in the moral life will be shallow."
-St. John Paul II
Today's Reflection:
For the Christian--one who is serious about who he really is--prayer is not optional; it is essential. As lungs are to physical life, prayer is to spiritual life. Without it, the spiritual life languishes, suffers, and dies; and although life may remain in the body, lost is the central purpose for living at all: communion with God.
Is prayer a major occupation in your life, or is it a sidelined event, an activity reserved for serious problems and Sunday mornings?
How is God calling you to turn your prayer life into the breath of your existence?
