"If one member suffers, all suffer together."
-1 Corinthians 12:26
Today's Reflection:
In the Mystical Body, we are one in Christ Jesus. We are no longer Jew or Greek, slave or free, we are one Body (1 Corinthians 12:13). And as members of that one Body, in some spiritual and mystical way, we are affected by others' joys and sorrows, triumphs and failures, strengths and weaknesses. This unity in the Mystical Body of Christ is no more keenly witnessed than in moments of trial, tribulation, and devastation. In these moments, we sense the needs of the other and enter into his travail. Even when it is not consciously experienced, suffering -- the common denominator of the human condition -- unites us with an unbreakable bond. But suffering itself begs us to ask questions.
Why do we suffer?
Why does God permit suffering to exist?
What is suffering's purpose?
