Biggest Wins for Life in 2025

This past year saw several remarkable wins for life from defunding Planned Parenthood to making childbirth free in the U.S. and commencing a long-needed investigation into the safety of the abortion pill.

According to Americans United for Life (AUL), a pro-life law firm and advocacy group, 2025 was a good year for advances in the protection of human life. In this article, John Mize, CEO of AUL, details some of the more significant wins that will positively affect the protection of human life in the U.S. for years to come.

Passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill This bill, which was passed on July 4, includes a “first-in-a-generation-win” for Americans by defunding Big Abortion for one year. Even after repeated attempts by the U.S. abortion industry to prevent this from going into effect, the defunding provision is still standing.

This bill also increased the Child Tax Credit and Adoption Tax Credit which are aimed at making child rearing and adoption more financially accessible.

Abortion Pill Review After years of lobbying from pro-life organizations, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., along with Dr. Marty Makary, Secretary of the Food and Drug Administration, have committed their agencies to conducting a full review of the controversial drug, mifepristone, known as the “abortion pill.”

“Americans United for Life applauds this commitment and will continue holding the Administration to their promises for the safety of women and girls,” Mize writes.

Supreme Court Allows States to Decide Who Gets Medicaid In June of this year, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a major blow to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers when it handed down a 6-3 decision to allow the state of South Carolina to disqualify Medicaid providers who offer abortions. The court ruled that the state should be free to direct its Medicaid funds toward real health care providers that offer women a wide range of services rather than to those who are mostly performing abortions. As a result of this decision, the door is now open for other states to defund abortion providers who are presenting themselves as women’s health care clinics.

Taking the First Steps toward Making Childbirth Free in the US Congress introduced the bipartisan Supporting Healthy Moms and Babies Act in both the House and Senate which would require private health insurance companies to fully cover the costs of childbirth and related maternal care. The bill, which incorporates AUL’s long-standing Make Birth Free Initiative, is in the early stages of introduction to Congress.

“Parents deserve to be confident they can support their children and overcome the financial barriers that discourages many Americans from growing their families,” Mize writes.

Rollback of Biden Era Abortion Mandates Shortly after his election, President Donald Trump rolled back numerous federal agency rules designed to promote abortion, such as a mandate that attempted to force emergency room doctors to perform abortions under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. He also corrected a Biden-era rule that attempted to force the Veteran’s Administration to provide abortions at their facilities, and the Department of Defense to facilitate access to them.

Release of New Study Linking Emotional Distress to Abortion The release of a massive new study in the International Journal of Women’s Health Care suggests that 1 in 4 women out of 31 million post-abortive women in the U.S. are suffering from “serious post-abortion distress” with nearly half showing symptoms of PTSD.

“The mental and emotional effects of abortion have been downplayed by the abortion lobby, and this study is essential to recognizing the decades-long trauma women face following abortion,” Mize writes.

Although more work needs to be done, 2025 was a year of significant gains in the fight for life.

“Fueled by these victories, AUL is excited for the year to come,” Mize concludes. “Together, we can save more lives than ever in 2026!”

Amen!
