Fox23.com is reporting that more than 100 guests showed up for Chase Branscum's eighth birthday party on December 9. Held at the Rejoice Church North Campus Gymnasium, well-wishers brought more than 500 gifts which will be donated to less fortunate children this Christmas.
“I already have toys and other kids don’t,” Chase said. “They don’t have toys and when they don't have anything for Christmas they can’t play and they can’t have fun.”
According to Chase's mom, Tiffany Rowe, “He has a wonderful heart. You want to raise your child to be generous and to think of someone other than themselves. Him doing this was a gift to me.”
Chase’s friends were just as happy to participate in the event.
“I’m happy that other kids get things because some of them have never had Christmas,” said Chases’ friend, Kennedy.
This is not the first time this year that children have given us an example of selfless generosity. The Huffington Post is reporting that in September of this year an eight year-old boy named Wyatt Erber donated the $1,000 he won in a scavenger hunt to the family of a two year-old girl suffering from leukemia.
"I wanted to give it to them," he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch at the time. "I didn't know what to do with it."
Earlier this year, seven year-old Glenn Dixon of Michigan donated funds raised by selling painted rocks to a domestic violence program for women and children.
"I like rocks, I like painting and I like to see people smiling," he told Advisor & Source Newspapers. "It makes me feel good to make people happy."
