A beautiful bride-to-be, who called off her wedding at the last minute, decided to use her non-refundable deposit to provide a “fairy tale” luncheon for 60 needy children and their families, she even gave away her linen for weddings she was so excited to use.

The New York Post is reporting on the story of Yiru Sun, a New York Life Insurance vice president and single mother of one child, who cancelled her wedding at the last minute after a disagreement over a prenuptial agreement.

“I don’t want to sign things I don’t feel comfortable with,” she said about the cancelled wedding, refusing to name her fiancé or provide any more details of the falling-out.

However, the decision not to sign cost her an $8,000 reception deposit at the elegant Harold Pratt House in New York City.

“Initially I felt frustrated,” she said. But three weeks later, “I woke up with this idea.”

She contacted the local Salvation Army and Inwood House, who helped her plan a delightful luncheon for other single moms and their children.

“At that moment, I started to think it was God’s plan,” she said. “I cannot be the princess of my wedding day, but I can give the kids a fairy tale.”

On the day that was supposed to be her wedding, Sun showed up in her wedding gown and told her guests about how she grew up poor in China but came to America where she studied hard and won a full scholarship for a graduate degree at Princeton University.

Even though single moms and their children face difficulties in life, they can still do great things, she said.

In addition to being treated to sumptuous meal, children also enjoyed face-painting and balloons.

Kimberly Gill, 10, who attended with her mother Amelio Victorio, 30, told the Post how impressed she was with the whole affair.

“It’s special because this lady canceled a special day for her family and herself just for little kids to have fun,” she said. “And she brought ice pops.”
