The Catholic News Agency (CNA) is reporting that Dolan's first tweet had all the hallmarks of his famous sense of humor. "Hey everybody. It's Timothy Cardinal Tebow . . . I mean Dolan" he said on May 8, alluding to the New York Jets popular new quarterback.
The head of the U.S. Bishops and a leader in the fight for religious freedom in America, Dolan plans to use the site to inform the faithful about his daily activities, his appearances on Sirius XM Radio's The Catholic Channel, as well as to provide inspiration and encouragement in the faith.
“Every person or institution will eventually let us down. Our ultimate trust must be in God and we will never be disappointed,” he said on May 9.
“St Therese of Lisieux reminds us that doing the ordinary things of life extraordinarily well, for the glory of God, is the path to sanctity,” he said the following day.
He'll also use Twitter to send readers the full texts of his speeches and statements.
His first two days on Twitter saw him acquiring 2,500 followers each day. As of Thursday, May 17, he had more than 8,000 followers.
This puts him behind Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Pontifical Council of Culture, who has 18,600 followers and Cardinal Odilo Scherer of Sao Paolo who has 13,700 followers. He took over third place from Cardinal Angelo Scola of Milan who has 7,200 followers.
