Pope Benedict Calls for “Exodus from sin” in Urbi et Orbi Message

by Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist Reflecting on the theme of the Israelite’s exodus from slavery to the Egyptians, Pope Benedict XVI’s Urbi et Orbi message delivered yesterday in St. Peter’s Square calls for each of us to experience our own “exodus” from slavery to sin into the promised land of faith in Jesus Christ. He also prayed for peace in the world and a “resurrection” from the despair and mourning in earthquake ravaged Haiti and Chile, the conflicts in Africa and the violent drug wars afflicting so many in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Judicial Vicar in Fr. Murphy Case Speaks Out

Lawrence Murphy, the Wisconsin priest convicted of molesting deaf boys several decades ago, said that because press reports of the case are so “sloppy and inaccurate,” he has decided to tell the “back story” in order to set the record straight.

Archbishop Dolan Calls on Catholics to Support the Pope

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist In a week when Catholics are following the suffering Christ through His death and resurrection, Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York is calling on Catholics to support the Pope who is enduring a media firestorm over new sex abuse allegations and who is now suffering some of the same unjust accusations, shouts of the mob, and scourging at the pillar, as did Jesus.”
