The Family Research Council (FRC) is reporting that key Senators will vote today on a procedural motion "to table" or kill an essential conscience protection amendment by Senator Roy Blunt (R-Mo.). Senator Blunt's amendment contains the "Respect for the Rights of Conscience Act of 2011" which restore conscience rights which were stripped under Obamacare and put a halt to the imposition of the controversial HHS mandate.
"Without the Blunt amendment, millions of Americans' conscience rights will be violated since the pseudo-'accommodation' the President promised on February 10th is NO accommodation at all," writes FRC president Tony Perkins.
Without a law to protect individuals, businesses, and religious organizations that are not exempted as 'churches' under the mandate, they will be forced to provide health coverage offering free contraceptives, sterilizations and abortifacient drugs such as the morning-after-pill which violate their religious beliefs.
"Americans with moral and religious objections should not be forced either to violate their conscience to comply with the government's dictate, or to drop health insurance for their employees and pay severe fines," Perkins says.
Doing so would not only be financially costly to religious institutions, it would result in many Americans losing their employer health care, which is not good for women or families. The conscience rights of Americans need to be restored under Obamacare.
The FRC is urging all concerned citizens to contact their Senators today and ask them to vote NO on the motion to table the Blunt Amendment which contains the "Respect for the Rights of Conscience Act of 2011" and YES on the amendment when it comes to the floor for a vote.
