"Pioneers" with facilitators (one graduate is missing from photo)

The pioneer group of Young Women of Grace has officially graduated!

After nearly 10 months of study (and lots of fun), six members of the first group of girls to embark on the new Young Women of Grace study officially completed the lessons and earned their graduation certificates. The girls were also gifted with a blessed purity candle which they can light whenever they need to be reminded of just how beautiful they are in the eyes of God.

What did they like the best about the course?

“Being surrounded by people who have the same views and values,” one pioneer said.

“Learning about the saints and strong young women like Blessed Chiara Badano,” another replied.

“Becoming individual friends with each other,” and “Having a comfortable place where you can be yourself” others said.

“I liked the questions that had us search the Catechism and the Bible for answers,” one of the girls said. “It showed us where to find answers to our questions – and the answers are there!”

We all reminisced about our favorite times together, such as how we were “spider bombed” while meeting in a pavilion at a local park where spiders kept falling on our table.

Then there were the times that we got together to watch movies, such as Risen during Lent and Miracles from Heaven this summer.

Discussions about heaven were “the best!” and everyone loved the many role-playing skits we employed to help us better understand the material.

We had fun with the self-esteem test (even though we all flunked, including the facilitators) and the different discussions we had to help us be more accepting of who God created us to be – not who the world pressures us to be.

As for the future, the pioneers plan to be very involved in our upcoming Facilitator Training Session on March 11, 2017 where women from around the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will come to learn how to host a group in their home or parish. In addition to speaking and answering questions at the event, they also plan to employ their well-known baking skills to provide treats for the women.

There is so much to take away from these months together, from deepening our knowledge of the faith to learning from one another how to be strong and confident young women in a world that desperately needs to understand the meaning of authentic femininity.

But most important of all, we came away with the gift of a new and sacred sisterhood that will surely remain with us forever.
