The U.S. House of Representatives passed a pro-life bill today aimed at protecting infants born alive after an abortion and to imposing a moratorium on federal taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood while redirecting those funds to more than 13,000 health clinics across the country.

LifeNews.com is reporting on the passage of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivor’s Protection Act, sponsored by Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) which will hold Planned Parenthood criminally liable for harvesting body parts from infants born alive after an abortion.

The bill is in response to videos depicting the harvesting of body parts from fetuses by the abortion giant. In one film, the fetus can be seen moving while technicians discuss plans to harvest its brain.

In another video, clinic workers joke about how a live baby “just fell out” of the mother before the abortion could be performed.

The new law would make failure to provide standard medical care to children born alive during abortion a federal crime. It would also apply stronger penalties when the child is deliberately killed after the procedure.

In addition, the bill will provide a civil right of action for mothers of children who survive an abortion that will enable them to hold the abortion provider accountable.

The House voted 248 to 177 in favor of the bill with 239 Republicans voting for it along with only five Democrats.

"The organ harvesting and possible partial or full delivery of live babies for their organs has shocked the American people,” said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council.

“I applaud the House for approving the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act to ensure babies who are fully born are treated with the equal care given to preemie babies born in hospitals. A vote for Planned Parenthood is a vote for inhumanity. The flow of money from taxpayers to this organization must end," concluded Perkins.

The Obama Administration has already promised a presidential veto. The president’s position statement explains his opposition to the bill as being due to how the new legal requirements “would likely have a chilling effect, reducing access to care.”
