iPhone and iPad Are Porn Free

by Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist The CEO of Apple Computers says his company “has a moral responsibility” to keep pornography off their popular iPhone and new iPad. LIfeSiteNews.com is reporting that Apple CEO Steve Jobs says his company will not do business with the pornography industry and began a major crackdown on application (app) designers in February when the company purged all objectionable apps. “Apple’s policy requires application designers to adhere to a company policy that could be described as ‘pro-family’,” LifeSite reports. “The iPhone Developer Program License Agreement (sec 3.3.17) states that ‘applications may be rejected if they contain content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, sounds, etc.) that in Apple’s reasonable judgment may be considered obscene, pornographic, or defamatory.” News of the policy surfaced during discussions with customers such as Matthew Browning who said he had an exchange with Jobs last month in which the icon of the tech world defended the company’s crusade against smut. “We do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone. Folks who want porn can buy an Android phone,” Jobs said, referring to Google’s smartphone. Apple’s iPad and iPhone do not offer complete freedom from pornography - objectionable material can still be accessed via the Internet, and may be attainable through iTunes - but most pornographic clips cannot, since they require Adobe Flash products, which Apple refuses to support for a variety of reasons. The subject came up again in an email exchange with Ryan Tate of Gawker.com. Tate accused Jobs of  "imposing" his "morality" on others by forbidding pornographic applications on his products, and claimed he didn’t want freedom from porn. Jobs responded: “You might care more about porn when you have kids.” The policy is taken very seriously at Apple. The company has twice rejected the app “Gay New York: 101 Can’t-Miss Places” because it included obscene and pornographic imagery. Jobs makes no apologies for his stance. “We’re just doing what we can to try and make (and preserve) the user experience we envision,” he said. “You can disagree with us, but our motives are pure.”  © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
