Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is coming under fire for saying that Jesus' Golden Rule - "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" - is what convinced him to cast his vote for pro-abortion Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, a woman who was responsible for doctoring a medical association's official position on partial birth abortion that was later used by the courts to uphold the gruesome practice. CNSNews.com is reporting that Sen. Graham, one of only five Republicans to vote in favor of Kagan, made the announcement on the floor of the U.S. Senate on August 3 while encouraging his colleagues to ponder Jesus' words before casting their vote. “ . . . (A)t the end of the day, those of us in the Senate have to understand that every branch of government includes human beings and there is a rule that stood the test of time," the Senator said in his speech. "I didn't make this one up. It was somebody far wiser than I am, somebody far more gifted than I ever hope to be, somebody I put a lot of trust in.   “It is called the Golden Rule. ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ That is probably one of the most powerful statements ever made. It is divine in its orientation, and it is probably something that would serve us all well if we thought about it at moments such as this. "   He went on to say that he intended to vote for Kagan “because I believe constitutionally she meets the test the Framers envisioned for someone to serve on the Court. I don't think the Framers ever envisioned Lindsey Graham from South Carolina voting no because President Obama picked someone who is clearly different than I would have chosen.” The bizarre speech is just another reason why Graham's popularity has been sinking in the Palmetto state. According to a recent Rasmussen report, 44 percent of Graham's constituents view him unfavorably, which is up 13 points since December. Former ambassador Alan Keyes said Graham's invocation of the Golden Rule to justify his vote for a pro-abortion zealot like Elena Kagan marks him "as the kind of politico people must drive from office if they mean to restore and preserve republican, constitutional self-government in the United States." He added: "While pretending that Kagan is not the sort of person he would have nominated for the Supreme Court, Graham slyly violated the second of the Bibles Ten Commandments when he suggested that Christ’s articulation of the 'Golden Rule' . . . had something to do with his decision to vote for her." The Kagan nomination was ultimately approved by the U.S. Senate on a 63-37 vote.
