Networks Cancel Homosexual-Themed Sitcoms

The annual list of cancelled primetime shows includes 11 shows that featured homosexual characters, none of which appealed enough to the general public to warrant even a full season.

New NormalAccording to Brent Bozell, CBS' gay sitcom, Partners, only lasted six episodes. NBC's Smash featured four regular gay characters but was cancelled due to lack of viewers. ABC's Happy Endings was also cancelled.

Perhaps the most prominent cancellation was NBC's The New Normal which was hyped as "paving the way for America's growing support for the gay agenda".

"Anyone who would suggest this country looks anything like this trumped-up stick-figure sitcom must live in a very strange universe," Bozell opines.

The timing of The New Normal was said to favor the re-election campaign of President Barack Obama who conducted a $25,000 a plate fund-raiser with the show's creator, Ryan Murphy (Glee, Nip Tuck, American Horror Story).

In fact, the show itself is said to be based in part on Murphy's relationship with husband David Miller and their struggle to have a child through a surrogate.

Cancellation of The New Normal is said to be the first of Murphy's series that did not survive past a first season.

According to Bozell, Wilson Cruz of the homosexual activist group, GLAAD, sounded the 'diversity' alarm when these shows were cancelled.

"The sheer number of characters who will no longer be on the air means diversity on television is once again at risk," Cruz said. "These cancellations mean networks have to make a concerted effort to ensure the 2013-2014 season truly reflects the diversity of their audience. With inclusive programs like 'Modern Family' and 'Glee' continuing to lead the ratings and collect praise from critics, it's in a network's best interest."

But it's all about the market, Bozell says.

"That bothersome thing called the market: why must it get in the way!" he writes. "Remember this idea that massive political change comes from primetime programming when the Hollywood executives try to argue that massive sex, violence and profanity on TV has no influence on coarsening the popular culture. They can't play dumb any better than President Obama is doing right now."

This time, it just didn't work.
