LifeSiteNews.com is reporting that according to Barth E. Bracy, the organizer of the 39th Annual Pro-Life State House Rally, it was toward the end of the festivities that nearby Occupiers "strategically fanned out with military precision" and started "showing condoms down on some of the girls from a Catholic high school."
The Occupiers then gathered around speakers at the podium, shouting them down while jostling members of the audience and preventing a priest from giving a closing prayer.
Bracy said he later tried to reason with one of the Occupiers, who identified himself as "Dallas" and asked what the right to life had to do with economics, but he got nowhere.
“You can’t have a reasoned conversation with these people,” he told LifeSite. “They simply try to taunt you. They’re smug, snarky, arrogant. You won’t get a straight answer.”
Dallas told Bracy he was on a 13-city national tour to teach socialist Saul Alinsky tactics to local organizers.
“Their actions have made it loud and clear, whatever else they are, they are pro-abortion – and they are willing to attack the pro-life movement,” Bracy said.
In the last week, Occupiers disrupted two other right to life gatherings. About fifteen members of Occupy DC tried to disrupt the March for Youth Rally on Saturday night and interrupted a prayer service for the unborn in front of the Supreme Court the following day.
“What they did yesterday was clearly the most outrageous and egregious thing they’ve done so far,” Bracy said about the Rhode Island rally. “I don’t know if this is a sign of what’s to come from them, but I think it’s important Catholics and pro-lifers know who these people are.”
The good news is that the Occupiers have been turning off both the public and lawmakers alike with their increasingly offensive behavior. Besides the grisly, drug-infested camps and blatant anti-Semitism that has come to be associated with the Occupy Wall Street movement, it appears to be sinking even further into anarchy.
This past weekend, a protest in Oakland, California deteriorated into an angry mob of protestors who burned the flag, broke into City Hall and defaced the property, including a children's art exhibit. Earlier, the same mob tore down fencing at the Henry Kaiser Convention Center where they proceeded to destroy construction equipment. Police were forced to use tear gas and smoke bombs to break up the mob.
These tactics aren't the way to win public approval of a cause.
“They couldn’t have done us a bigger favor,” Bracy said. “We’re more popular with the legislators than we’ve ever been, because they’re absolutely appalled at their behavior.”
