Officials Call for Resignation of Anti-Catholic Obama Advisor

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist A high ranking Congressman is calling for the resignation of White House adviser, Harry Knox, who recently reiterated his belief that the Pope’s policy against condom distribution in Africa is “hurting people in the name of Jesus.” CNSNews.com is reporting that House Minority Leader John Boehner (R.-Ohio) said that  Knox, who serves on President Barack Obama’s faith-based advisory council, appears to be an “anti-Catholic bigot” and should resign as a White House adviser. Rep. Boehner made the statement during a press briefing yesterday when asked if Knox should step down due to his statements. “He should resign. And I have agreed to sign a letter,” said Boehner, a Roman Catholic. “We can’t have in the White House an anti-Catholic bigot, and that’s what this gentleman appears to be.”   Knox originally made these statements last year when Pope Benedict said that in order to overcome the problem of AIDS in Africa, there must be a change in behavior, not just more condom programs. “If there is no human dimension, if Africans do not help [by responsible behavior], the problem cannot be overcome by the distribution of prophylactics: on the contrary, they increase it.”   On the same day as the pope's remarks, Harry Knox said: “The Pope’s statement that condoms don't help control the spread of HIV, but rather condoms increase infection rates, is hurting people in the name of Jesus.” Knox, who serves as director of faith and religion at the Human Rights Council, a homosexual activist organization, also called the Pope a “discredited leader” and referred to the Knights of Columbus as a “discredited army of oppression.” In 2007, he referred to a bishop’s decision to deny communion to a lesbian couple “immoral and insulting to Jesus.” This will not be the first time Rep. Boehner wrote a letter to the president asking for Knox’s resignation. He wrote a similar letter last year and was told by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs that the president was “comfortable” with the people serving on his faith-based advisory council. © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
