Pro-Abortion Catholic Group Appears to Have Folded

Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good (CACG), the Catholic group that was instrumental in trying to convince Catholics they could vote for pro-abortion presidential candidate Barack Obama in 2008 appears to have gone out of business.
LifeNews is reporting that the group's blog and website has been inactive for months and their phone number has been disconnected.
"After spending millions of George Soros’ money in promoting pro-abortion health care . . . and in trying to diminish abortion as an issue for American Catholics it appears the false Catholic group has closed up shop," said Tom McClusky of the Family Research Council.
If the CACG has gone out of business, it would confirm what many believed about the group since its inception, that it was "a George Soros vehicle meant to confuse and divide the Catholic vote in favor to benefit pro-abortion President Obama," McClusky told LifeNews.
The group is perhaps best known for publishing a voter's guide prior to the 2008 presidential election that incorrectly told Catholics support for a pro-abortion candidates could sometimes be justified. " . . . (W)e often must vote for candidates who hold the ‘wrong’ Catholic positions on some issues in order to maximize the good our vote achieves in other areas,” the guide stated.
However, this is not Church teaching. In the 1998 document entitled Living the Gospel of Life: A Challenge to American Catholics, the United States Catholic Bishops said, “Being ‘right’ in such matters can never excuse a wrong choice regarding direct attacks on innocent human life."
"Indeed, the failure to protect and defend life in its most vulnerable stages renders suspect any claims to the ‘rightness’ of positions in other matters affecting the poorest and least powerful of the human community."
LifeNews has learned that two of the founders of CACG have taken other positions. Alexia Kelley now runs the faith based office at the Department of Health and Human Services and Tom Perriello, a congressman from Virginia, is currently involved in a tough re-election bid.
"As McClusky explained to LifeNews, Perriello "is in the race for his life because of his numerous bad votes that seem to favor George Soros’ agenda as opposed to the people in his district, including votes for the pro-abortion Obamacare."
