The man who gave the world superheros such as Spiderman, Hulk and the X-Men, is preparing to unveil the first homosexual superhero.
According to the London Telegraph, Lee has created a character called Thom Creed, a high-school basketball player who is forced to hide his sexuality as well as his superpowers. What kind of powers Creed will have has not been disclosed.
Lee, the former head of Marvel Comics, developed the idea of a gay superhero after reading the award-winning novel Hero by Perry Moore. He will unveil the new character in an hour-long television special in the U.S. and if the show is popular, the program will be shown in England.
The new superhero is apparently creating quite a buzz among comic book fans. According to London’s Sun, one television industry source said: “It was only a matter of time before we had our first gay superhero. And if there is one man who can make him a success it is Stan Lee.”
