Charisma News is reporting that 48 year-old Dianne Reidy, who has served as a stenographer for more than 20 years, reportedly took over the microphone during the vote.
Florida Rep. Illeana Ros-Lethinen, who was the presiding officer on the floor at the time, said Reidy “came up to the podium area beneath where I was standing and asked me if the microphones were on. I said that I didn't know. I assumed that perhaps I was chatting too much to the helpful parliamentarians around me. Then she suddenly faced the front and said words like, ‘Thus spoke the Lord,’ and, ‘This is not the Lord's work’.”
Ros-Lethinen said she banged the gavel several times in an attempt to restore order, but Reidy wasn't finished yet.
“The greatest deception here is this is not one nation under God," Reidy said. "It never was. Had it been, it would not have been. No. It would not have been. The Constitution would not have been written by Free Masons. They go against God. You cannot serve two masters. You cannot serve two masters. Praise be to God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise forever.”
Reidy was apparently referring to the fact that many of the nation's founders were freemasons, a list that includes the likes of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin.
She also repeated the words "He will not be mocked. He will not be mocked."
Reidy had to be forcibly removed from the floor, and was taken to a mental hospital for evaluation.
She would later tell Fox News' Chad Pergram that "for the past 2 1/2 weeks the Holy Spirit has been waking me up in the middle of the night and preparing me (through my reluctance and doubt) to deliver a message in the House Chamber. That is what I did last night.”
House members were shaken by the incident as Reidy is both well-known and well-liked and described by Ros-Lethinen as a "gentle soul."
As of this writing, no further explanation has been given for Reidy's uncharacteristic outburst.
