Next month the Catholic galaxy will become a little brighter as the Church receives a new cluster of saints. Among the holy handful will be just one woman, a French Carmelite considered by Pope Saint John Paul II to be one the most influential mystics of his life.

Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity was born as Elizabeth Catez, “Sabeth” to her friends, in 1880. She was a hot-tempered child with sometimes “furious eyes” whose father died while she was young, forcing her mother to move Sabeth and her younger sister from their home in Dijon to a smaller second-story flat. From her window, little Sabeth could look down into the garden of the Carmelite convent.

Women of Grace Regional Coordinator, Diana Marie Salsman recently asked if we would join her family in praying a novena to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta for her grandson Luke, who is in the preparation stage for an Allogeneic transplant.   This is a very serious procedure which has the potential of saving Luke's life and bringing him back to health.  A tentative date of Nov 4 has been set for the transplant and the preparation is set to begin on October 13th, the feast of the miracle at Fatima.

Each of these is structured in such a way that it is perfect for a daily devotional during this Holy Season of Lent.  They also are great resources for increasing our life of faith and strengthening our interior life. One of my favorite books for Lectio-Divina (see Week One of the Advent Study) is Divine Intimacy, by Father Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalene.

This book provides meditations on the interior life for every day of the liturgical year. I have found it to be very efficacious.

One of the meditations offered by Father Gabriel for the fourth week of Advent is entitled, The Call to the Apostolate.

In it, he offers an insightful perspective of the Christian call to evangelization based on the words of St. John the Baptist, "Prepare ye the way of the Lord" (Luke 3: 4). In the end, he tells us that "Jesus has need of us." When I read these words, they infused me with zeal.

Because I found this meditation so spiritually benefiicial, today I'd like to share with you what Father Gabriel presents.
