SB asks: “I have a sweet little dog named Spunky who is having a few health challenges. He has some lower back arthritis that has recently gotten worse. I am a big advocate for using God's gifts to treat things naturally whenever possible and was blessed to find an integrative veterinarian who has a Masters degree in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Since his arthritis is progressing, it was recommended to try acupuncture. I have recently read some articles about the benefits of acupuncture from a Western perspective. However, I know that her view of acupuncture comes from her schooling in Eastern medicine. Do you feel that I could safely have acupuncture done on my dog, without the risk of any spiritual repercussions for either of us?”

I have been having acupuncture for 2.5 years on a regular basis for anxiety. The Dr. that is treating me is a Catholic and a MD. I have benefited greatly from this therapy. He does mention that I have had blocks that need to be opened and I do feel very relaxed after the treatments. . . .

I have a relative in my family who is a trained physical therapist. I have noticed that she talks about organs "having certain emotional energy" These energies give way to our illnesses in our bodies. She has even been able to sense that a patient had an abortion years earlier, causing her uterus to retain the trauma inflicted to it. Many people admire her ability to release this negative energy from her patients. I worry that this seems very new age. In all other areas of her life she is an outstanding catholic. She has been trained in cranial sacral therapy, holistic healing, too. Any thoughts?"

"There are so many alternative medicine practices out there. Some of them sound very suspicious to me and refer to 'life force energy' and 'spirit guides' but some sound okay. I even know of a Catholic chiropractor who prays before treating people but he's a Reiki Master! How does a Catholic know which ones are compatible with our faith and which ones are not?"

Please tell me if the Acculief is okay to use? It's essentially a clamp placed on the hand that helps alleviate headaches. I ordered it from a catalog. The description however, didn't say anything about accupressure or energy, etc, unlike the instructions that arrived in the package! The other question: What's the difference between accupressure and massaging trigger points?"
