A heartwarming video is taking the internet by storm today as a young man toting flowers and a bag of Doritos is seen asking a delighted teen with Down Syndrome to go to the prom.
FoxNewsInsider.com is reporting on Shaedon Wedel, a senior at Newton High School in Newton, Kansas, who decided to ask his best friend’s sister, 15 year-old Carlie Wittman, who has Down syndrome, to be his prom date.
Wedel said he has been planning to take Carlie to the prom all year and finally did so with a sweet promposal that was captured on a Facebook video where he's seen wearing a shirt that says: “I know I’m NACHO your typical Dorito but . . . I’m going to be CHEESY and ask: will you got to prom with me?
He then officially asks Carlie, "Will you go to prom with me?"
Carlie, who is clearly delighted and overwhelmed, covers her face with her hands.
“Is that a yes?” Wedel asks, then steps up to give the flustered girl a hug.
Wedel later explained to CBS News that he has known Carlie’s older brother Carson for years and considers the Wittman family to be like a second home.
When asked why he brought Doritos, he replied, “because I have known her for seven years and there has not been a day that I have not seen her eat Doritos,” Shaedon said. "She absolutely loves them!”
This selfless teen says his goal is to make Carlie’s prom as special as possible.
“She says she wants to be a princess like Cinderella, and it would mean everything to make her feel that way.”
Thanks to his big heart, she will now have that chance!
