The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa was the scene of the afternoon tea which was sponsored by the Friends of Fertility Care, a group of health care professionals who are dedicated to promoting women’s health through the Creighton Model FertilityCare and NaPro Technology. The event attracted nearly 100 women and their daughters.
Speakers such as Marcia Niznan, MS, CFCP and Helen LaFrance, PA, FCP, reinforced the idea that it’s great to be a woman and made learning about the physical changes to our bodies during puberty seem much less mysterious to the girls.
The presentations were also a lot of fun. For example, at one point mothers were asked to take a moment to share one thing about their daughter that made them a special blessing to the family. Some girls were praised for their sensitivity toward their siblings – even the little brothers who tested them daily! Others were complimented for their “dry sense of humor” and their sweet and caring attitude toward others.
At the end of the presentations, Barbara Rose, RN, MSN, CFCP, came up with a fun way to give the girls a test about what they had learned. She made a game out of the facts presented and asked the girls a series of questions. Whoever got the right answer received a prize.
While tea and sweets were served, Susan Brinkmann, OCDS, co-author of the Young Women of Grace program gave a short presentation on the new program and invited moms to consider starting a group for their girls.
“It’s up to us to help the young women in our lives to navigate through the perils of this world,” Brinkmann said. “They are the life-givers of tomorrow. God chose them to physically and spiritually mother this confused and hurting world. And He chose us to prepare them.”
Lesia Petrizio, owner of Mind, Body, Soul, Fitness LLC, also gave a presentation to the girls on what to eat to keep themselves healthy during their teen years.
Katelyn D’Adamo, of Generation Life, a Philadelphia-based movement of young people committed to building a culture of life, gave the girls a rousing presentation called “Living the Royal Life: Establishing Yourself in Today’s World” that instructed them on how to live like the daughter of a King.
The last event of the day was a fashion show with girls from the audience modeling a variety of fashion-forward outfits.
It was a fun way to spend a cold winter afternoon – warm tea, delicious sweets, good companionship and a time to celebrate the beauty of womanhood and the God-given gift of our authentic femininity.
