The Obama Administration continues to shower the pro-abortion lobby with favors as the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the same department that issued the controversial birth control mandate, names a former Planned Parenthood spokesman as their new deputy assistant secretary for public affairs.
Politico is reporting that the HHS has named Tait Sye, Planned Parenthood's former media director, to a post in their public affairs department. The announcement was made on Friday, which is typically done by the Obama Administration when they wish to avoid press coverage for something controversial.
In his new job, Sye will have responsibility for communications involving the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In his former post, Sye was involved in Planned Parenthood's defense of the HHS mandate requiring that contraception be provided by employers' insurance policies, including religious employers.
Pro life groups were understandably outraged by the appointment.
“Personnel is policy... This is one more example of how intertwined the Obama administration is with the abortion industry and Planned Parenthood,” said Charmaine Yoest, president of Americans United for Life, in an email. “The Obama administration and HHS have demonstrated their unrelenting bias in favor of the abortion industry throughout the healthcare debate and in the way in which the law is being developed.”
Jeanne Monahan of the Family Research Council also denounced the appointment.
“As the rest of the country is moving away from funding Planned Parenthood... it is a sad reflection upon Obama’s priorities that he continues to make these kinds of personnel decisions.”
Dave Andrusko of National Right to Life says no one should be surprised that Obama continues to stock his bureaucracy with abortion advocates.
"Who are the leading pro-abortion organizations? Planned Parenthood, EMILY’s List, and NARAL. All have representatives in prominent positions in the administration."
From the time of his 2008 campaign, the president has repreatedly claimed that his administration will exclude lobbyists from his White House.
However, the sad truth is that more than 40 former lobbyists currently work in senior positions in the Obama administration, including several Cabinet secretaries.
Thus far, the HHS has refused to comment on Sye’s appointment.
