According to a press release from SeekingArrangement.com, an online dating service that caters to matching wealthy men with beautiful women in "mutually beneficial relationships," the site says 186,000 women signed up since January to find their version of the Christian Grey-Anastasia Steele "fairy tale."
"SeekingArrangement.com has quickly become a virtual hot-spot for those who are seeking a 'Fifty Shades' type arrangement," the site boasts.
In the best-selling series written by E. L. James, a wealthy businessman named Christian Grey seduces a naive college graduate named Anastasia Steele into joining him in a sado-masochistic relationship. During the course of the books, he tries to get Anastasia to sign a contract in which she agrees to become his sex slave "for the purpose of discipline [and] . . . for his own personal enjoyment." The book is full of graphic portrayals of the violent sex that the two participate in.
SeekingArrangement.com said they polled the site's 1.6 million members and found that 79 percent of the women said they liked the idea of succumbing to a "Dominant" male like Grey. Not surprisingly, 90 percent of the men said they find the idea of a "Submissive" woman like Steele to be exciting.
"Fifty Shades of Grey is a sugar daddy meet sugar baby story based on money, power and sex. Most women love the Cinderella story where a young girl is swept off her feet by rich, powerful, and handsome men,” says Brandon Wade, CEO and Founder of Seeking Arrangement. “This is the reason why so many women are looking to turn this fantasy into reality."
Sex sells, he says, and James' trilogy proves it. "While Fifty Shades of Grey may have awakened long dormant sexual fantasies of countless sexually underwhelmed women worldwide, no one has been able to put a figure on exactly how the book has impacted the sex lives of men and women until now."
He adds: "Since the Fifty Shades trilogy made the New York Times Bestseller list, the number of women joining Seeking Arrangement to find their own 'Christian Grey' has ballooned to over 186,000 worldwide."
So much for those who thought the books were just "entertainment."
