Zenit News is reporting that Monsignor Edoardo María Viganó, director of the VTC, says the departure of the Pope from the Apostolic Palace next Thursday "will be a historic moment" that will be captured on film. Italian Radio and Television (RAI) is planning to film those final moments and broadcast the images to all continues.
"We are planning to report on these moments respecting the Pope's person and informing the faithful who wish to support Benedict XVI at such an important moment," the Monsignor said.
Television cameras will actually be in the Apostolic Palace and will follow the Pope until 5:00 pm when he is scheduled to board the helicopter that will take him to Castel Gandolfo. Three hours later, his resignation becomes official and the period of the Vacant See begins.
In total, the VTC will employ 26 television cameras to follow the Pope's departure as well as the conclave and future pope so that the faithful will be able to follow the upcoming historic events as fully as possible.
