Intense pressure from pro-life groups and the general public has resulted in shaming the mainstream media to put aside their pro-abortion bias and begin covering the trial of "House of Horrors" abortionist, Kermit Gosnell.
Breitbart's John Nolte is reporting that after weeks of silence, liberal media outlets are finally admitting that they made a mistake by neglecting to cover one of the most sensational abortion stories of our time. Gosnell is currently on trial in Philadelphia for the murder of seven people in his abortion clinic where late-term abortions were routinely performed and babies who survived the procedure were killed by having their spines snipped with scissors.
After weeks of pressure from New Media and social media, including a "tweetfest" that drew millions of Twitter subscribers to the story last Friday, major mainstream media outlets began to cave, not only admitting that they should have covered the story but promising to do so at once.
"We believe the story is deserving of coverage by our own staff, and we intend to send a reporter for the resumption of the trial next week," said The Washington Post. "In retrospect, we should have sent a reporter sooner."
Even the ultra-liberal Daily Beast, promised to do better in the future. Megan McArdle wrote a column entitled "Why I didn't write about Gosnell's trial -- and why I should have" in which she openly admits that reporting on "sick-making stories" is never attractive when it's done by "our side."
"Of course, I'm not saying that I identify with criminal abortionists who kill infants and grievously wound their patients. But I am pro-choice."
For those who try to twist the Gosnell story into an example of why we need "safe legal abortion," McArdle makes yet another stunning admission.
"What Gosnell did was not some inevitable result of legal abortion," she writes. "But while legal abortion was not sufficient to create the horrors in Philadelphia, it was necessary. Gosnell was able to harm so many women and babies because he operated in the open."
Even Politico admitted that this is a story that needs coverage. "Gosnell should be front-page, top-of-the-hour news by primetime tonight," writes Dylan Byers. "And if it's not, we'll write about it again."
"This is not the usual-usual from our media," Nolte writes. "Normally, like a game, the media will only admit to this kind of oversight long after it is too late to do anything about it. Worse still, the admission of the mistake is generally just a convenient excuse for the media to talk about their favorite subject -- themselves. That doesn’t appear to be the case this time."
In fact, as of this writing, major outlets such as CNN are already offering extensive coverage of the story.
Kudos to all those who participated in Friday's "Tweetfest"!
