Vatican Not Revealing Contents of Pope Benedict’s Message to President-Elect Obama

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Writer Pope Benedict XVI sent a telegram to president-elect Barack Obama congratulating him on winning the presidency and addressing other issues that are not being made public. According to Fr. Federico Lombardi, Director of the Press Office of the Holy See, the contents of the Pope’s greeting will not be made public “because of its personal nature,” Lombardi said during an interview on Vatican Radio. “The duty that the President of the United States has is a task of the highest responsibility not only for his country but for the whole world, given the importance that the U.S. has in every field of the world scene," Fr. Lombardi said during the interview.   “For this reason, we all hope the new President Obama will be able to respond to the expectations and hopes placed in him, by effectively serving what is right and just, finding adequate ways to promote world peace, favoring the growth and dignity of the human person, in full respect of the essential human and spiritual values.” He concluded by saying “Believers pray that God may enlighten and assist him in this greatest responsibility."   © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly/Women of Grace. http://www.womenofgrace.com   One of Johnnette’s most popular books, Living Life Abundantly, a collection of powerful conversion stories, is now available as an audio book that can be downloaded from our website.
