Catholic Charities to Receive $100 million from Government

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Writer Just three days after Catholic Charities USA shocked the Catholic world with their endorsement of the Obama Administration’s pro-abortion health care reform, news broke that the organization has received its first ever federal contract totaling $100 million. The contract was awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and its Administration for Children and Families (ACF).  Though the contract covers all types of disasters, Catholic Charities noted that the agreement comes in time for the 2009 hurricane season. “We all hope and pray for zero disasters, but reality forces us to be prepared,” said Fr. Larry Snyder, Catholic Charities USA President and CEO, in a statement.  “Our people, our agencies, and our partners have exceptional first-hand experience -- not only from Katrina, Gustav and Ike -- but from our every day work in serving those most devastated and most in need across the country. People know they can turn to Catholic Charities to get the job done. We thank the Department of Health and Human Services for their confidence in us.” Fr. Snyder characterized the contract as “a very strong endorsement of who we are and what we do, and powerful recognition of the donors who support us and who we will now need to count on more than ever.” The American Life League (ALL), the country’s largest grassroots pro-life organization, points out that the announcement of the contract came just three days after the organization scandalized the Catholic community for their campaign in support of the Obama administration’s goal of “health care reform now” which includes tax-subsidized abortion and rationed care for the sick and elderly. The Catholic Charities campaign to promote health care reform includes sending action alerts to supporters as well as promotional video featuring President Obama rallying Congress to pass his health legislation. The organization makes no mention of the abortion coverage or other anti-life measures built into the current bills. © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
