Congresswoman Admits Abortion Included in Health Care

Despite repeated claims to the contrary, a California Congresswoman admitted that abortion is indeed included in the current health care reform bills circulating on the Hill.
During a townhall meeting in San Jose, California, a citizen asked Rep. Zoe Lofgren why abortion is being covered in the health care plan even though over 90 percent of all abortions are elective procedures and not medically necessary. “Why is this being covered when abortion is clearly not health care,” the voter asked, to a round of applause.
Rep. Lofgren replied, “[This is a] basic benefit plan developed by, um, health professionals . . . Abortion will be covered as a benefit by one or more of the health care plans available to Americans, and I think it should be."
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, says “It doesn't get any clearer than that.”
Perkins said this latest admission explains why Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards has refused to debate him on whether taxpayers would be forced to fund abortion under current health care bills.
“She has yet to respond,” Perkins says. “Of course, we can all understand her apprehension, now that House Democrats are freely admitting that Richards' organization is in line to receive even more health care dollars than the $300 million Uncle Sam already provides.”
