By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist   A new Rasmussen poll found that the majority of Americans believe government-subsidized health care plans should be prohibited from covering abortion. The latest poll found that 48 percent of Americans think abortion coverage should not be included in health care reform with only 13 percent believing it should be provided. Thirty-two percent say they’re neutral on the issue. Overall, more Americans continue to oppose the health care reform plans proposed by the president and Congress than support it. Of those opposed to the plans, 72 percent favor a prohibition against abortion. Of those in favor of the plans, 22 percent want abortion banned and only 22 percent want it mandated with 47 percent choosing to remain neutral. A similar divide is also found on the abortion issue along party lines. Seventy-two percent of Republicans favor an abortion ban while 43 percent of Democrats prefer a neutral approach. Among those not affiliated with either major party, a plurality (48%) would like to see a prohibition.   “Polls taken over many years by many organizations have found that Americans are uncomfortable with taking away a woman’s choice on the issue of abortion, but most are opposed to having public funds pay for abortions,” Rasmussen said.  Still, most Americans (52%) think it is too easy to get an abortion in America and 58 percent believe abortion is morally wrong most of the time. “The health care reform legislation working its way through Congress faces many obstacles primarily because it touches so many aspects of life,” the report says. “The abortion issue is one more with the potential to create a lose-lose situation for advocates of the plan.”   © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
