Anglican Bishops Hold Secret Meeting at Vatican

Only weeks before a crucial Anglican synod that will debate whether or not to ordain women as bishops, a group of key Traditional Anglican bishops revealed that they met last week with Vatican officials to begin the process of allowing priests to convert en masse to Catholicism.
London’s Telegraph.co.uk is reporting that the Rev John Broadhurst, the Rev Keith Newton and the Rev Andrew Burnham, the bishops of Fulham, Richborough and Ebbsfleet respectively, met with senior members of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome last week to discuss the process of allowing a large exodus of Anglican clerics to enter the Catholic Church.
Many say the move will be made in protest of the Anglican church’s plan to debate the issue of female bishops at its General Synod in July. The church will also decide at that time what to do with traditional clergy who oppose the ordinations.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, is said to have pleaded with the bishops not to leave the church, but to no avail. The bishops have made it quite clear that they have become so disillusioned with the Church's liberal direction that they are ready to accept the Pope's offer to enter the Catholic Church.
It would be the first time for nearly 20 years that large numbers of priests have crossed from the Church of England to Rome. Although the number of priests saying they wish to convert is small thus far, it is expected to grow if satisfactory provisions are not made at the Synod for those who oppose female bishops.
