Pope to Deliver “Intense” Message at Fatima Next Week

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist A Vatican spokesman has announced that Pope Benedict XVI will deliver an “intense message” during his four day visit to Portugal May 11-14. During a press conference to prepare the media for the upcoming trip, Vatican spokesman Fr. Federico Lombardi said the Pope will deliver an “intense” message during his May 13 stop in Fatima which will mark the 10th anniversary of the beatification of the Fatima children.  "Fatima is a particularly significant place for this Pope," Fr. Lombardi said, and called the visit the “heart” of his four-day trip. He did not elaborate any further on the contents of the Pope’s message.  As the Catholic News Agency reports, the Pope is very familiar with the shrine since his tenure as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. During that time, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger participated in an extensive study of the message of Fatima.  For this reason, he has been involved in the history of the famous Marian sanctuary in a “very deep, personal way,” Fr. Lombardi said. Nearly a half-million Portuguese are expected to participate in various functions during the Papal visit which will take place in Lisbon and Fatima. This will be the Holy Father’s 15th trip abroad since becoming pope in 2005. © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
