By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist A mix up in a prominent Connecticut fertility clinic resulted in a woman being implanted with the wrong embryos. After discovering the error, the woman chose to take the morning after pill to prevent a possible pregnancy. The Associated Press is reporting that the Center for Advanced Reproductive Services at the University of Connecticut Health Center has agreed to pay a $3,000 fine for implanting a woman with someone else’s embryos in April, 2009.  According to the clinic, the embryos, which belonged to a woman with the same last name, had been in storage since 2006. The lab technician only checked the last name on the vial when retrieving the embryos from frozen storage. State health department procedures require a check of the medical record number and the last four digits of the Social Security number.  The technician has since been “reassigned.” The woman who received the embryos in error was told of the problem within hours of being implanted with the embryos and chose to prevent the pregnancy by taking the morning after pill.
