By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist A rare moment in the history of the mainstream media occurred recently when a popular pro-life television show based in Cincinnati, Ohio won a regional Emmy award for a show chronicling the compelling case of a woman born with a rare disease who overcame enormous odds to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother. LifeSiteNews.com is reporting that the show, Facing Life Head-On, which is a project of a pro-life education organization known as Life Issues Institute, won the award for an episode about Missy Davert, a woman who stands just two feet 11 inches tall due to a condition known as osteogenesis imperfecta. According to the show's host and executive producer, Brad Mattes, Missy's condition makes her bones exceptionally brittle and has resulted in more than 200 fractures during the course of her life. Eleven years ago, she found out she was pregnant with twins and doctors immediately advised her and her husband to abort one or both of the infants due to the stress the pregnancy would cause upon her frail body. But Missy always wanted to be a mother and refused to abort. With the help of Dr. Daniel Wechter, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist based in Saginaw, Michigan, was able to carry the twins to 32 weeks. She gave birth to two healthy babies, Austin and Michaela, who are now 10 years old. "I believe this is a first for the pro-life movement—receiving an accolade at this level by the media industry, much less the Academy," Mattes told LifeSite. When he accepted the award at the black-tie ceremony, he thanked God for allowing him to interview such inspiring guests. "We thank God for this award," he has said. "The glory goes to HIM.  It’s HIS ministry."
