Yes, the world really is turning upside down. This is the moral behind the latest transgender news of a mother and son who both decided to transition at the same time – thus transforming themselves into father and daughter.

The New York Post is reporting on the story of 15 year-old Corey Maison of Detroit who first began to identify as a girl four years ago; however, it wasn’t until last year that he revealed his gender struggle to his mother.

“I wanted to make my parents proud of who I am, but I thought that they would not like me,” Corey said about coming out as transgender.

His mother, Erica Maison, admitted that she had also wrestled with gender identity and secret yearnings to be male.

The mother of five said she felt emboldened by her daughter’s decision and decided to come out as well.

“The first feeling was relief, the second was terror,” said Erica, who now goes by the name Eric. “Fear for what my future would hold, fear for how my family and children would, fear for what the rest of my life was going to look like.”

She has since undergone a double mastectomy and plans to stay with her husband, Les, who supports her transition.

“I fell in love with the person. She was beautiful as a woman, but equally beautiful on the inside,” Les Maison told Australia’s 9News.com. “As long as Eric is happy with the appearance, Eric will be happy with what’s in her brain – or his brain.”

Erica says she has only one regret about her decision – “not being educated sooner about what transgenderism was, so I could do it sooner.”
