In an interview with The Telegraph of London, Wikileaks journalist James Ball said secret documents referring to the Vatican will be released within the next few weeks.
During the interview, when pressed about whether or not the documents would contain references to the Pope, Ball simply repeated that they would be released "within the next few weeks."
The documents will be part of 250,000 classified documents and U.S. Embassy cables from around the world that are being released by the international non-profit media organization known as Wikileaks. The site, which publishes submissions of otherwise unavailable documents from anonymous sources or that have been leaked, has released just 200 of the latest cache of files which are expected to contain all kinds of embarrassing comments by U.S. officials about world leaders.
Documents released thus far show American diplomats comparing Iran’s President Ahmedinejad with Adolf Hitler and labelling France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy as the “emperor with no clothes.” The German Chancellor Angela Merkel was depicted as “risk aversive,” while the Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin was an “alpha dog.” Afghanistan’s president Hamid Karzai was said to be “driven by paranoia.”
Also among the cables are requests for "specific intelligence" about British MPs, details of inappropriate behavior by a member of the Royal family, and criticisms of Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron as well as that country's military operations in Afghanistan.
The documents are already causing a worldwide furor that is creating a major diplomatic crisis for the U.S. among its European and Middle Eastern allies.
But there is much more yet to come, Ball said, claiming that the world's journalists will be "kept busy for months" as the documents continue to be released.
