The celebrated young actress, Letitia Wright, who plays a supporting role in the hit movie, Black Panther, is not shy about relating how she left her acting career to find God – and what a difference He has made in her life.

CNSNews.com is reporting on a recent interview given by Wright and co-star Daniel Kaluuya on This Morning where she spoke candidly about her journey of faith.

“I just needed to take a break from acting because I really idolized it,” she told This Morning hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford. “So I came off from it, and I went on a journey to discover God and my relationship with God. And I became a Christian, and it really just gave me so much love and light within myself. And so much— And I felt secure.”

Wright, who is just 24 years-old, was born in Guyana and raised in London, told the Sydney Morning Herald that she had been dogged by depression since the age of 18 and hit a low point in her early 20’s.

"It was very, very bad and I didn't know a way out," she reveals. "I had many days at my mum's where she didn't even know what to do."

Friends invited her to a Bible study in east London. It turned out to be a a life-changing experience that led to her becoming a committed Christian.

"I realized that acting is not my god," she told the Herald. "I don't need to be validated by anybody else, I don't need to be accepted or approved of for my happiness.

"Ever since then, everything's just been really, really positive in my life. Yes, I have difficult days, like everybody else, but I deal with those difficult days differently.

"I don't feel those depressive feelings any more. I just feel so free and happy. So yeah, I won't hide my faith, because it's helped me so much. God has been my way out."

Her faith is now her guide. In fact, just before coming to Los Angeles for a screen test for Black Panther, she was praying and “I felt really strongly in my spirit, like, this thing about love and light kept popping up,” she said on Good Morning America.

Later, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler referred to her in the exact same words, calling her “the love and light” of his film.

When it comes to giving God the credit, Wright doesn’t hesitate for an instant. On the day the film was released, she sent out a tweet that read: “Do you mind if I praise God? Just want to give thanks to God for all of the blessings and all he has done for the @theblackpanther cast & crew! It belongs to you all now! Enjoy enjoy enjoy.”

Four weeks after its debut, Black Panther is still No. 1 in the North American box office. It crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide last weekend and became the 7th highest grossing domestic release with $562 million.
