Woman With Down Syndrome Rocks the Runway!

A 21-year-old model with Down syndrome from Alicante, Spain, achieved her dream of walking the runway at the New York Fashion Show when she participated in a special show celebrating models with challenges.

Inews.co is reporting on young Marian Avila who modeled two stunning evening gowns in Saturday's show.

“I felt really happy and I really loved the runway,” she said through a translator after the  show. “I wanted to show the world that there are no barriers.”

She was one of several girls with challenges who graced the runway that day. U.S. model and actress Tae McKenzie, who uses a wheelchair, and another young girl with Down’s syndrome, also modeled fashions in the show.

“The mission of my business is to change the world one stitch at a time, but I know I’m not going to do that just by making pretty dresses," said designer Talisha White who hosted the event. "It’s going to be the women who wear those pretty dresses.”

There’s beauty in all women, she said, regardless of their looks or shape.

“I wanted to show not just one type of girl is beautiful. I like to showcase all types of girls, from pageant girls to models in wheelchairs, models with Down syndrome, models who are 4 feet and told they can never be a model. They are my ‘it’ girl,” she said.
