Fortnight For Freedom Planned to be a Great Hymn of Prayer for Nation

Plans for the nationwide Fortnight for Freedom program, an unprecedented campaign sponsored by the U.S. Catholic Church to call attention to the critical role of religious liberty in American society, will begin with Mass in the nation's oldest diocese, include protests, prayer and fasting at the parish level, and will conclude with the ringing of the bells in every Catholic steeple in America at 12 noon on July 4.

Alumni to File Canon Law Suit Against Georgetown University

Academy Award winner William Peter Blatty, whose best-selling book and blockbuster film The Exorcist were situated at his alma mater, Georgetown University, announced today that he will lead alumni, students and other members of the new Father King Society to petition the Catholic Church for remedies up to and including the possible removal or suspension of top-ranked Georgetown’s right to call itself Catholic or Jesuit in its fundraising and representations to applicants.

U.S. Bishops Submit Formal Comments on HHS Mandate

Comments submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) by the General Counsel of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) on the controversial birth control mandate say the rules still force religious employers to provide services they find morally objectionable, and urge the administration to resolve "in favor of more, not less, religious freedom."

Hate Crime: Historic Catholic Church Vandalized

Authorities are looking for vandals who scrawled anti-Catholic slogans on the walls of historic Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz, California, and broke into the church where they damaged a baptismal font that was a gift from Blessed Junipero Serra, founder of the California missions.
